DRIVE BY TRUCKERS
Blessing and a Curse.
Great Rock 'n Roll bands are in short supply these days. What a breath of fresh air to hear Blessing and a Curse! Track after track, of one great song after another!
"Feb. 14" starts off the collection in straight ahead Rock 'n Roll style with sarcastic lyrics and a wall of guitars! "Gravity's Gone" sounds like it belongs on the Rolling Stones Let It Bleed CD (a kind of a sleazy, raucous, rolling down the highway vibe). "Easy on Yourself" follows and about now you begin to realize that you are listening to a great Rock 'n Roll CD.
There are three distinctive writers at work in the group. Patterson Hood is the leader. Mike Cooley and Jason Isbell each have a slightly different, sarcastic take on Southern living. Note: Jason Isbell has since left the band.
It's hard to say now, but Blessing and a Curse one day might be looked at as a classic.
NOTE: As I write this, I am reading that the Drive by Truckers are backing Bettye LaVette in a new release, Scene of the Crime (due out around September 2007). I can't wait!!!
