Everything I got it came too easy.
I was given the key to the city of gold.
I was up there living in an ivory tower.
I thought that love could be bought and sold.

I didn't have the best of intentions.
I could never feel the shame.
Everything changed on my blue Monday,
that was the day that it began to rain.

Now I'm watching the river rise
and there's a fear caught in my eyes.

I hold my head, search for forgiveness.
No one to call and nothin' to do.
Maybe I've become a little bit wiser.
Circumstances made me face the truth.

Now I'm watching the river rise.
It took me by surprise.

I kept up every empty promise,
blinded by the writing on the wall.
It's all my fault.
I know that I hurt you.
I feel it in my heart.
So much to prove.

There's nothing I can do to stop it comin'.
The water falls down and the sun don't shine.
I've learned to be more humble.
Every day brings a new water line.
