As Big Wheels Roll.

© 2008 Gary Eisenbraun.

You want forever
to always be free.
No complications
to fall right at your feet.
If the truth don’t turn out
as you planned,
then there’s fear.
You can never understand.
You wander
if you’re already gone.
You spend your nights,
where you don’t belong.

You pace the streets
with survival in your hands.
Into your box,
it’s all you understand.
Your ambition,
to never face the fire.
It’s too late now
to reach a little higher.
The forest.
Can’t see it through the trees.
It’s never what you want
it to be.
You’re closing your eyes
as big wheels roll.

The grains of sand
that fall away in time.
A reminder
of the scene of the crime.
In your emotions,
second guesses prevail.
In your illusions,
you never seem to fail.
You wake at night
to all that is real.
You forgot
what it is to feel.
You’re closing your eyes
as big wheels roll.

You lost yourself
when you abandoned the dream.
Inside your head,
it was just another scheme.
The face of lonely
is all that you know.
Dreamed of a day,
when all of it would go.
You wander
if you’re already gone.
You spend your nights
where you don’t belong.
as big wheels roll.
